• Fitting lab: spinal soft goods and side lace supports
• Anatomy of the cervical spine
• Cervical and rigid spinal orthotics: biomechanics, fitting
demonstration
• Fitting lab: cervical and rigid spinal orthotics
Wednesday
• Review of second day’s material
• Anatomy of extremity joints (knee, ankle, elbow, wrist, shoulder)
• Prefabricated extremity bracing: biomechanics, fitting demonstration
• Venous insufficiency and compression therapy
• Fitting demonstration: therapeutic compression stockings
• Fitting lab: compression stockings, extremity bracing
Thursday
• Review of third day’s material
• Anatomy of internal structures related to the biomechanics of
orthotics
• Abdominal supports for hernia, bariatrics, maternity
• Effective marketing and promotion of a fitting service
• Overview of home medical equipment: mobility aids, wheelchairs, bath
safety
• Overview of post-mastectomy products
• Closed book, written in-class examination of material to date
Friday (choose between two programs)
MASTECTOMY FITTERS CLINIC
(presented by SAI’s Airway division; requires separate registration

• Anatomy and pathology of the breast, with emphasis on breast cancer
• Types of mastectomy surgeries and the differences between them
• External breast forms: proper selection, fitting techniques
• Mastectomy bras: proper selection, fitting techniques
• Effective marketing and promotion of a mastectomy fitting service

THERAPEUTIC FOOTWEAR SEMINAR
(presented by ACOR® Orthopaedic; requires separate registration fee)
This is comprehensive and intensive classroom instruction on anatomy
and pathology of the foot, and proper fitting procedure of specialized
shoes within the context of a therapeutic footwear program.
Participants will learn –
• Basic anatomy of the foot
• How to identify various conditions that interfere with successful
shoe fitting for diabetics
• How to measure and properly fit the diabetic foot
• How to direct mold the inlays to create a conforming shoe bed
• Features of specialized shoes that are useful in addressing various
problems
• How to be successful with a therapeutic footwear program |
